WHANGAREI

About 5.40pm on Saturday (February 18), two men armed with a firearm entered the Sunnyside Foodmarket on Station Road, Kamo and robbed the shop keeper of cash and a quantity of tobacco.

The man carrying the firearm, described as a pistol or cut-down rifle, was also carrying a back pack. He is described as tall, of skinny build, wearing knee length shorts, a dark coloured jacket with the hood over his head.

The second man is described as of fat build and was wearing grey track pants and a dark jersey with a bucket style hat.

Both men disguised their faces by wearing dark coloured bandannas and sunglasses.

Following the robbery the males left on foot along Eden Terrace.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of the Sunnyside Foodmarket or surrounding streets at any stage on Saturday afternoon.

Police would also like the occupants of a red hatchback vehicle who spoke to the victims at the rear of the store moments after the robbery to contact them.

Anyone with information on this robbery can contact the Whangärei Police on 430 4500 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
