The gourmet food experience is moving out of the nation’s top restaurants and into the movie theatre.

Hoyts Te Awa at The Base in Hamilton now offers a dining experience to rival any great blockbuster movie.

Punters can now stop worrying about rushing through a meal in order to get to a movie on time – the state of the art cinema complex offers in-theatre dining, complete with waiters, a tapas style menu and luxury reclining chairs.

And for those after a quick pre-movie snack rather than a full meal, more gourmet options await at the cinema complex’s walk through food emporium that offers everything from an ice-cream parlour and wine cellar to a candy dispensary, gourmet hot dogs and even a delicatessen serving cheese and antipasto platters.

Hoyts Chief Operating Officer Brian Eldridge says the in-theatre dining experience and food emporium caps off what is now a complete movie experience.

“We know that New Zealanders are passionate about food, so when we were designing this new complex we wanted to give customers an experience that wasn’t just about going to see a great film – it’s also about having a fantastic place to meet with friends to enjoy exceptional food and wine.

On top of the new dining options, Hoyts Te Awa boasts six 3-D capable screens, 1500 seats the latest Dolby 7.1 surround sound and a dual-purpose cinema and function room where businesses can host events.

It is also the first cinema in the country to launch D-Box Motion Code technology, which provides realistic motion effects in theatre seats that move in sync with the drama onscreen.
