Climber Found Deceased

At approximately 10.30 hours on Thursday 23 February, Te Anau Police were informed of a climbing accident on the Homer Saddle.

It is believed one of a party of three Climbers has slipped on the ridge and fallen approximately 800 metres.

Police located the missing climber deceased but due to the adverse weather conditions in the area could not recover his body.

Another attempt to recover the climber is being made this morning with assistance from the Alpine Mountain Rescue and local SAR members.

The 50 year old New Zealand born climber's name cannot be released at this time until family members have been advised.
