Stewart Island - Helicopter rescue
At 1030 a.m. on Sunday 26th February 2012 Police were notified of a 56 year old hunter having received a serious leg injury at 6 p.m. last night while hunting on Stewart Island in the Doughboy Bay area.
He was a visitor in a hunting party of 3, and he was carrying a locator beacon which was activated.He had hired this beacon and this was of great assistance in the rescue.
The RCC coordinated the rescue with a Rakiura helicopter dispatched from Stewart Island and Stewart Island Police assisting.
The male was rescued and is now receiving medical treatment.
