WELLINGTON

Wellington Police are urging residents in the Eastern Suburbs to report any suspicious activity as soon as it occurs, following some night time burglaries in recent weeks.

Acting Wellington Area Commander Detective Inspector Paul Basham says overnight on the 9th of February, Police were called to two separate Kilbirnie addresses in quick succession, where occupants had woken to find a male in their homes. Once disturbed, the offender left on foot.

"We are aware of a further incident, similar in nature, which occurred in the early hours of last Friday 24 February at an Onepu Road address. We believe these incidents are linked."

Detective Inspector Basham says, "Whilst we do not want to alarm residents, we do want people to be aware of these incidents and ensure they take all the usual safety precautions when it comes to home security, ensuring doors and windows are secured each evening."

A description of the offender in all incidents is very similar. He is described as a Maori or Pacific male in his mid teens to early 20's of medium build, clean shaven with dark brown hair. In one instance he was wearing a purple and yellow baseball cap. A face sketch is attached to this media release.

Police want to hear from any residents in the Eastern Suburbs who witnesses any suspicious activity to contact them on 111 as soon as possible.
