Police have recovered the body of a male at a Whitemans Valley Road address, which sparked an Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) call-out earlier this afternoon.

Upper Hutt Area Commander Inspector Mike Hill says Police were called to the address after reports that a man had discharged a firearm around 1:30pm.

"A large number of Police staff attended, including AOS members. The scene was then cordoned and contained. A short time ago, Police recovered the body of a 45 year old man on the driveway of the address."

Inspector Hill says the address has now been cleared and no one else was located at the property.

"We will continue making enquiries into the circumstances which led to this man's death however we are not seeking anyone else in connection to this incident."
