Waikato District Council (WDC) attack on Federated Farmers for offering advice to Franklin farmers who will be affected by its incoming Stock Movement Bylaw is misguided.

"The Waikato District deputy mayor Dynes Fulton is wrong in saying the Federation offers poor advice to Franklin farmers who will be affected by the council's Stock Movement Bylaw once it comes into effect on 1 July," says Federated Farmers Auckland provincial president Wendy Clark.

"We have just pointed out the bylaw doesn't come into force in any way until this date and that the bylaw has no provision for the early granting of permits.

"There is nothing to apply for yet and no way in which the council can process any applications before 1 July.

"The Federation is not offering any advice beyond encouraging farmers to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the new bylaw. This is all they can do at this stage anyway.

"The poor advice is coming from WDC, who should know better than to resort to bluster to get their bureaucratic nightmare of a bylaw into place," concluded Ms Clark.
