Murder charge laid

Nelson Police last night charged a 44 year old man with murder following the death of a woman in the city.

The man presented himself at the Nelson Police Station about 1.35pm today and advised Police that a woman's body was in a car parked in a nearby street.

Police subsequently discovered a body of a 37 year old woman in the car. The car has been taken for forensic examination and an autopsy will be done on the deceased to determine the cause of death.

The man will appear in Nelson District Court today.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the death.
