Male charged with Victoria Park skate park assault

Auckland Police have today charged a 48 year old male in relation to an assault on a 15 year old male at the Victoria Park skate park in the weekend. he will be appearing in Auckland District Court on Monday.

A complaint has been made with Police by Mike Geers, who is the owner of the Art by the Sea gallery in Devonport, on the North Shore. Mr Geers has been inundated with hate emails and text messages from people believing that he was associated with, or was indeed the person responsible for the attack in the weekend.

Mr Geers phone number and business name was widely circulated around the internet and social networking sites.

Police confirm that Mr Geers is not the person charged, and neither he, his family nor the art gallery have any direct relationship with the man charged. Any correspondence directed at Mr Geers is misplaced.

Police have spoken to a 25 year old male responsible for setting up a Facebook aimed at attacking the person charged with the weekend assault. This male has cooperated immediately by deleting the Facebook page, and openly expressing his lack of judgement by circulating Mr Geers phone number and email, believing it belonged to the person charged.
