Fatal crash in Western Bay of Plenty

Western Bay of Plenty Emergency Services responded to a fatal car crash this evening (Thursday) on McLarens Falls Road, near Peers Rd.

A single vehicle travelling south bound (away from the highway) came over a slight rise, left the road crossed the centre line and crashed into a large tree. The impact caused the vehicle to split in two.

Both occupants were thrown from the vehicle on impact. A 43 year old local Male died at the scene, the other occupant, a 42 year old local died at the Tauranga Hospital a short time later.

The Police Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and an investigation is being carried out to establish the causes of the crash but speed has already been identified as a contributing factor.
