MASTERTON

Wairarapa Police are continuing their enquiries into a robbery at the Colombo General Store in Masterton yesterday afternoon.

Officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says at around 2:45pm three men entered the store, on the corner of Colombo Road and Herbert Street and demanded cash from the till.

"They made an unsuccessful attempt to steal the cash register but fled from the store empty-handed. They left in a vehicle, driven by a fourth offender, which we have since recovered. We've arrested a 21 year old Carterton man, who has appeared in the Masterton District Court this afternoon charged with demanding with menaces."

D/S/S Hansen says Police are actively seeking three male offenders. They're described as being of Maori descent, aged in their 20's or 30's.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was either in the vicinity of the Colombo General Store at the time of the robbery or anyone who may know their identities."

Sean Hansen says the staff member was left shaken but unhurt as a result of the robbery.

Anyone with any information should phone Wairarapa Police on (06) 370 0300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
