Today at 3.40am Counties Manukau Police were called to Rowandale Road, Manurewa, a 41 year old female reported that a 37 year old male was at her home with serious abdominal wounds.

It is believed the male, who has gang connections had walked to Rowandale Road from his home on John Walker Drive.

Officer in charge of the operation, Detective Sergeant Eddie Sutherland said, "The male lives in a sleep out at the John Walker Drive property. It is thought that an altercation has taken place, leaving the victim with critical abdominal injuries."

The male is undergoing surgery at Middlemore Hospital and his status is reported as critical.

"At this stage it is unclear what has occurred. We have been unable to speak to the victim prior to him going into surgery. We would like anyone with information regarding this incident to contact police immediately," said Mr Sutherland.

Police are in the area at present conducting a scene examination and talking to members of the community to establish the circumstances.

Counties Manukau Police are concerned with any type of violence in the community and want to work with the public to eliminate these types of incidents in the future.
