Rotorua mayor encourages local entries in New Zealand's Got Talent

Rotorua mayor Kevin Winters is encouraging talented locals to audition for television show ‘New Zealand’s Got Talent’ to ensure the city is well represented in the second series of the popular talent quest programme.

The show will be hosted by TV One’s roving weatherman Tamati Coffey, himself a talented Rotorua local having won the 2009 Dancing with the Stars title.

Mr Winters says the show offers locals the chance to showcase their talents on national television while vying for a grand prize of $100,000, as well as the opportunity to proudly represent Rotorua.

“It’s a family-friendly competition for everyone from dancers, singers, musicians, magicians and comedians, to fire eaters, stunt artists, acrobats and aerialists.

“Rotorua has heaps of talented people and a long history of amazing entertainers coming out of our city. So this is a great chance for local people to compete among New Zealand’s best, and a great chance to promote their hometown.”

“So come on Rotorua, let’s show New Zealand where the country’s best talent comes from.”

Auditions begin in the South Island on Monday 30 April and will reach Rotorua on Monday 28 May.

Following auditions, acts selected to be part of New Zealand’s Got Talent will attend recording sessions in one of the country’s four cities where heats are be filmed. Rotorua heats are scheduled to take place at the Civic Theatre on the weekend of 7 and 8 July. Other heats will be filmed in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin.

There is no entry fee for auditions, no age limit, and organisers say every talent genre is welcome.
