The Otago Regional Council (ORC) is hosting two meetings to update Mosgiel and Taieri Plain residents about proposed works on the Taieri flood protection and drainage schemes.

The meetings are being held at the Momona Hall on Monday 16 April from 1pm, and at the Mosgiel Coronation Hall from 7pm on Wednesday 18 April.

ORC chairman Stephen Woodhead said the meetings are part of an annual series the council runs to keep locals and other informed about the schemes.

The Taieri is a natural flood plain and residents rely on the substantial infrastructure there for a degree of flood protection.

“While we can’t completely eliminate flood risk, it’s useful for everyone to be up-to-date with how the schemes work and what they offer,” Cr Woodhead said.

It was particularly important for new residents to have an opportunity to learn about the schemes and what can realistically be expected from them.

The meetings will discuss:

·         How the schemes operate, and their impact on Taieri residents and their properties

·         Key flood protection works proposed on the Taieri.

Cr Woodhead said everyone was welcome.

“This is a great opportunity for people to speak to ORC staff and councillors about their flood protection and drainage schemes,” he said.
