To mark its 50th Anniversary, Outward Bound is inviting Christchurch residents to attend an exclusive cocktail evening which will include a screening of the organisation’s newly released documentary, Inside Outward Bound: The New Zealand Journey.

While all Cantabrians can attend the event, in particular it will offer former Outward Bound course participants a special opportunity to reconnect with former watch mates.

Iaean Cranwell, a former Outward Bound student and one of the stars of the documentary, will attend the evening and feature as the guest speaker, offering attendees a unique insight into the life-changing adventure he experienced at Outward Bound.

Filmed by award winning documentary maker Pietra Brettkelly, the documentary follows participants as they take on the Outward Bound challenge. Since its launch in 1962, over 52,000 kiwis from all walks of life have completed an Outward Bound course.

Outward Bound Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Taylor, said the documentary takes viewers into the world of Outward Bound and captures the true vision and essence behind the iconic New Zealand organisation.

“We’ve been unlocking kiwi potential for 50 years now,” Trevor said.

“We hope that more New Zealanders will take the opportunity to share in the Outward Bound journey and perhaps be inspired to undertake their own Outward Bound Challenge.”

The 50th Anniversary cocktail function will be held at The Westpac Hub in Addington, on Friday 11 May from 5.30-8.30 p.m.  All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards Outward Bound’s cutter sailing vessel replacement programme.

To buy tickets go to www.outwardbound.co.nz – there will be no door sales on the night.
