New route for Auckland cyclists on the way
Work to build a new cycleway through Walmsley and Underwood parks to improve travel for cyclists in Wesley begins this Monday, 5 November.
Capital works programme manager for Auckland City Council, Maryanne Miller, says the new cycleway is part of the council's 20-year cycle plan to create a continuous link of cycleways and walkways throughout the city.
"The new cycleway will offer cyclists an attractive alternative to travelling along main roads in the area.
"On completion, the new route will mean quicker and safer travel for cyclists, and will open up access to the green spaces surrounding Oakley Creek in Walmsley and Underwood parks," says Ms Miller.
The new cycleway will run approx 1.3km between the Sandringham Road Extension and Richardson Road, linking with the existing cycleway through Mt Roskill War Memorial park, State Highway 20 and the planned cycleway in Keith Hay Park.
The $530,000 cycleway is expected to be ready for use in early 2008.
