Update on UC Incident
Earlier today a postgraduate student at the University of Canterbury was injured when, it is understood, a flask shattered during a purification exercise.
This student suffered a hand injury. Another postgraduate student who was in the laboratory at the time sustained a minor neck injury. Both have been taken to hospital and emergency services have left campus.
The University's response to the incident has now been scaled back to a Health and Safety matter. This afternoon the University will be monitoring the students’ progress.
As a result of coverage of the incident by news media and on social media, the University has been receiving enquiries from friends and family of staff and students. The University is advising staff and students to let friends and family know they are safe l if they think they may be concerned.
