WELLINGTON CITY

The 40 year old Masterton man admitted to Wellington Hospital with a head injury yesterday has made a significant improvement.

He regained consciousness overnight and has been talking to hospital staff.  Police have not yet been able to interview him but hospital staff are confident he should make a full recovery and is likely to be discharged from hospital within days.

Officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says it is still unclear as to how he has sustained his injuries.

“We are keeping an open mind but are still interested to hear from anyone in the area of Essex and Pownall Streets between 1.30am and 6.00am on Saturday the 5th of May 2012.”

The man is described as a European, aged 40 years, who was clean shaven with brown hair. He was wearing a black bomber-style jacket, dark blue denim jeans and black boots.

"The scene examination in Essex Street has been completed and we have spoken to a number of people including residents from Essex Street homes.”

Anyone with any information should phone Wairarapa Police on (06) 360 0300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
