WELLINGTON CITY

We have many attractions for tourists in Wellington, but how many of them have you been to? If someone stops you on the street to ask about the observatory, what could you tell them?

Positively Wellington Tourism have come up with a plan to make us even better hosts to our visitors - they're giving us the chance to see most of our city's attractions for a gold coin donation this Sunday 27 May.

This is the second year of the Wellington Open Day. Last year, thousands of Wellingtonians flocked to our attractions.

This year, the following places are taking part:

  • Carter Observatory
  • Colonial Cottage Museum
  • Downstage Theatre
  • Museum of Wellington City & Sea
  • Old St Paul's
  • Otari-Wilton's Bush
  • Staglands (Upper Hutt)
  • Motel Bar
  • New Zealand Portrait Gallery
  • Parliament Buildings
  • Wellington Botanic Garden
  • Cable Car and the Cable Car Museum
  • Wellington Zoo
  • Zealandia

They are open from 10.00am to 5.00pm, and many are running special tours especially for the day.

The following tours will also depart that day from the i-SITE Visitor Centre at Civic Square:

  • John's Hop On Hop Off City Tour
  • Seal Cost Safari
  • Hammonds City & Coastline Tours

Gold coin donations will go towards a charity of the attraction's choice. Attractions that are already free will include extra features like guided tours.
