Hamilton Police are investigating the death of a cyclist found on Victoria Street Hamilton near the Fairfield bridge in the early hours of this morning. At about 1:00am Ambulance staff were called to assist a male who was found lying on the footpath and was unresponsive. Soon after emergency services arrived on the scene the man was pronounced dead.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was traveling on Victoria Street Hamilton near to the Fairfield bridge at about 1:00am. At this time Police have been unable to establish the exact cause of the cyclist's death and Detective Sergeant Daryl SMITH is keen to hear from anyone who may have information that would help the enquiry.

Detective Sergeant SMITH said that the person's death while tragic, is also a timely reminder for cyclist to do their part for road safety by always wearing a helmet and having lights and reflectors on their bikes.

Hamilton motorists can expect delays this morning as Victoria Street from the Fairfield bridge to Abbotsford Street will remain closed to all traffic for several hours.
