Picton's new sports pavilion underway

Marlborough District Council Assets and Services Committee chairman Graeme Taylor had a slap on the back for Picton’s chairman of the Endeavour Park Pavilion Society Inc. Graham Gosling this week after the tender for the first stage of the project was announced.

The new multi-purpose facility with a 200 seat capacity will be known as Port Marlborough Pavilion.

Mr Gosling has led a long community campaign to raise $350,000 toward the $2.8M cost of the first stage of the building at Endeavour Park.

Most of the cost is being met by the Marlborough District Council from Picton rates revenue with a contribution from Council’s Reserves Development Fund. Port Marlborough is paying $100,000 over five years for naming rights. New Zealand King Salmon and the Canterbury Community Trust have also provided significant financial backing.

Marlborough firm T H Barnes will build the pavilion and it’s hoped it can be ready before next winter.
