Chapman Tripp is pleased to announce the appointment of 21 new Senior Associates, across all practices and offices of the firm, and three Special Counsel, effective today.

Special Counsel

‘Special Counsel’ is a new role at Chapman Tripp, created for highly experienced, senior practitioners who excel in their chosen field.

The three Special Counsel are:

  • Alan Lester, Finance, Wellington – Alan's practice covers all aspects of banking, finance and debt securities work. He specialises in bank financing; capital markets debt raising; swaps and derivatives; and bank regulation.
  • Nick Lough, Corporate & Commercial, Wellington – Nick focuses on mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions.  He has particular expertise in business acquisitions and reorganisations; company, securities and securities markets laws; corporate governance; and complex contractual matters.

  • Lyndsey Partridge, Private Client & Trusts, Auckland – Lyndsey specialises in trusts (both private and charitable), succession and asset planning.  She has particular expertise in trust structuring, intergenerational change and personal property ownership for business families.

“The Special Counsel designation recognises the specialised knowledge, expertise and experience of these practitioners. Special Counsel are, and will remain, a very select group of lawyers within our firm. We are pleased to congratulate Alan, Nick and Lyndsey on their achievement,” says Chapman Tripp Managing Partner Andrew Poole.

Senior Associates

Chapman Tripp’s new Senior Associates are:

Auckland

  • Jennifer Tunna and Tim Walker, Finance
  • Rachel Dunne, Kelly McFadzien and Joshua Pringle, Corporate & Commercial
  • James McMillan and Marie Wisker, Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Luke Hinchey and Teresa Weeks, Environment, Planning & Resource Management
  • Nick Francis and Alistair Law, Property, Real Estate & Construction
  • Phillippa Wilkie, Private Client & Trusts

Wellington

  • Josh Blackmore, Chris Bougen and Tim Sherman, Corporate & Commercial
  • Nicholas Wood, Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Paul Holth, Property, Real Estate & Construction
  • Jess Rowe, Tax

Christchurch

  • Nicki Carter, Stephanie Muller and Tania Pearson, Corporate & Commercial

“We are delighted to recognise the talent and dedication to client service of our new Senior Associates. These lawyers have the potential to be the next generation of Chapman Tripp Partners. We congratulate them on their appointments,” says Poole.

The firm’s existing Principals will also be known as Senior Associates from 1 June.

“‘Senior Associate’ is now our most senior pre-partnership designation. Formerly, we used the title ‘Principal’, acknowledging those lawyers' work quality and ability to manage relationships with clients is at or near partner level. While that acknowledgement of quality and ability remains, we no longer retain the Principal designation.

“Using the Senior Associate title better aligns our senior designations with the local market and international best practice,” says Poole.

Chapman Tripp now has 54 Partners, 36 Senior Associates and over 130 other legal staff.
