HAMILTON

Hamilton Police have commenced an investigation into the death of a woman who was undergoing an evidential breath test procedure in a Booze Bus late on 3 June 2012.

The woman was the sole occupant of a vehicle stopped on Cambridge Road, Hamilton at about 11.15 pm during a routine alcohol checkpoint operation.  After failing the Breath Screening Test she was required to complete the Evidential Breath test procedure.

While undergoing this process in the Booze Bus, she fell from her chair and appeared to be in need of assistance.  Despite immediate first aid and Ambulance attendance, she died at the scene.

A post mortem is being arranged for the morning.

The identity of the woman is not yet available as next of kin are still being informed.

Police have commenced an internal enquiry in conjunction with notifying the Coroner and the Independent Police Conduct Authority.

NEXT UPDATE:
There will be no further update until after the post mortem is completed. The timing of this is not certain, but likely to be early afternoon 4 June 2012.
