The latest romantic comedy from New Zealand’s most successful playwright Roger Hall’s ‘A Shortcut to Happiness’ is coming to Hamilton’s Clarence St Theatre next month for three nights from 12-14 July as part of its upper North Island tour, following on from Auckland seasons at Sky City Theatre and Bruce Mason Centre.
With recognisable Kiwi characters, ‘A Shortcut to Happiness’ is about discovering the ways of a new country, accepting differences, finding love and dancing your way to happiness. Presented by the Auckland Theatre Company, the show features a stellar cast including Stuart Devenie (Four Flat Whites in Italy), Laura Hill (Taking Off), Cameron Rhodes (The Importance of Being Earnest) and Alison Quigan (Shortland Street).
Hamilton City Theatre Business Development Manager Megan Lyon said it will be the sixth year that Auckland Theatre Company has partnered with Hamilton City Theatres to bring productions to Hamilton.
“Auckland Theatre Company is well established in Hamilton, with plans to continue regular touring into the city. Another Auckland Theatre Company show, ‘On the Upside of the World’, is included in this year’s Fuel Festival in June and is proving popular,” she said.
“It is great to continue to strengthen the relationship between Auckland Theatre Company and Hamilton City Theatres with A Shortcut to Happiness – I encourage the public to get their tickets fast to avoid disappointment.”
“Auckland Theatre Company is delighted with the support it has received from Waikato’s theatregoers over the last six years; audiences for our shows have grown steadily, and developing work that can be presented in Hamilton now factors in our planning,” says Auckland Theatre Company General Manger, Lester McGrath.
“ATC is charged with the role of being an arts leadership by Creative New Zealand. A responsibility we take seriously. As our audiences have grown so too have our networks of contacts with Hamilton’s creative sector. We’ve been able to provide support to local groups by rolling out some of our practical workshops locally too and in the future to continue and grow this service to local groups when it is appropriate for us to do so,” says McGrath.
Other centres visited during the tour will be Hastings, New Plymouth and Tauranga – venues which Hamilton City Theatres work with regularly on touring productions.
Earlybird prices available until Friday, 8 June. Tickets from Ticketek.
