Dunedin South MP and Labour Broadcasting Spokesperson Clare Curran is urging Dunedinites to do what they can to support the campaign to Save TVNZ 7 and attend the Dunedin Public Meeting being held tomorrow night, Thursday 7 June from 6-8pm in the Colquhoun Theatre, Dunedin Public Hospital.

"On 30 June, unless the government changes its mind, or is forced to change its mind, TVNZ 7, our commercial free public broadcast TV Channel will be switched off because the National Government doesn’t want to continue funding it," Clare Curran said today.

"There is a Nationwide Campaign to Save TVNZ 7 that has stemmed from the public outcry of this announcement. Over the past few weeks, there has been a series of public meetings around the country for people to say what they think about public broadcasting. On Thursday 7 June it is Dunedin's turn to have their say," Clare Curran said.

"The meetings in the past few weeks throughout the country have seen hundreds of people brave the elements to show their support and show the Government that they won't stand for our public service channel to be switched off,” Clare Curran said today.

"TVNZ7 funding is a drop in the bucket at around $14 million and I have drafted a private members Bill calling on Television New Zealand to fund this but we need more than political solutions,"

"I am urging each and every Dunedin resident to come and show their support tomorrow night, and join the campaign to save our Public Service Television. We need the Kiwis who watch TVNZ7 and value public broadcasting to stand up and tell the Government to save this public service," Clare Curran said today.
