Following an eight month investigation, Police have identified the incomplete skeletal remains found in a Mt Wellington garage last year.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Hooper of the Glen Innes CIB says the remains are that of homicide victim, 25 year old Javed Fraser Mills, formerly Javed Abdula Rahman.

"For a short time Mr Mills (see attached picture) had lived at a nearby property on Barrack Rd - currently the scene of a forensic examination - and Police believe he died there in 2009."

D/S/S Hooper says it's a relief to be able to identify the mystery bones that were found at 137A Barrack Rd on September 30, 2011. While we're pleased to be able to identify the deceased, we also know that Javed's family is now dealing with the knowledge that he met an untimely death at the hands of another.

"I have been in touch with members of Javed's family and they are coming to terms with their loss. Javed was not reported missing by his family however there is some evidence that they were deceived into thinking that he was still alive".

A 24 year-old Mt Wellington man appeared in the Auckland District Court on Wednesday where he was charged with interfering with human remains. He was granted name suppression and remanded in custody to reappear on June 20.

Mr Hooper says, "More serious charges in relation to Javed's death were likely to be laid in the coming weeks."

In the meantime, the investigation team is working towards building a profile of Javed through locating friends and associates who may be able to recall their last sightings of him.

"Police want to hear from anyone who has information about Javed, his associates or his lifestyle. In particular, we'd like to hear from people who saw him in person any time in 2009 or 2010."
