MANUKAU CITY

Police and volunteer search teams are in the Hunua ranges searching for an overdue tramper.

The man was last in contact with friends at 3.30 p.m. yesterday when he sent a txt message saying he was delayed.  He has not been seen or heard from since.

The 36 year old man is described as being of Asian or Polynesian appearance and of stocky build.  He was wearing a light-weight black jacket and three- quarter length shorts and was carrying a day pack.

Search co-ordinator, Sergeant Dene Duthie wishes to hear from anyone who was in the Hunuas yesterday, especially in the Mangatawhiri and Waharau areas.  Even if trampers did not see the man, information they have may assist search teams in directing their searches.

Information can be relayed via the police Northern Communications Centre on (09) 571 2800.
