Bomber Command veterans leave for London

Media are invited to attend the farewell for 33 veterans who served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) with Bomber Command, who will travel to London this week to attend the dedication and unveiling of a Bomber Command memorial.

The veterans, who are aged between 87 and 94, will depart RNZAF Base Auckland, Whenuapai, on June 21 2012.

The farewell will be attended by Veterans’ Affairs Minister Hon Nathan Guy, and Chief of Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Peter Stockwell, who is heading the delegation.

There will be an opportunity to interview the veterans before the official farewell begins. Media are invited to attend from 7.45am.


What: Farewell to 33 Bomber Command veterans travelling to London to attend the dedication and unveiling of a Bomber Command memorial.

Where: RNZAF Base Auckland, Whenuapai, Air Movements Terminal

When: Thursday 21 June 2012
        8.15am – official farewell
                8.30am – passengers board aircraft
                9.00am – depart Whenuapai
