Hutt City Council has formally adopted its Long Term Plan for 2012- 2022 which keeps a steady hold on rates while providing for future growth of the city, says Mayor Ray Wallace.

“Our commitment is to ensure we make adequate provision for our future through investment in infrastructure and new projects while keeping rates as low as possible.

“These are tight economic conditions and at every stage, we are asking, “‘can our ratepayers afford it?’ – this has kept our feet on the ground and ensured a prudent approach to our spending,” says the Mayor.

“We have also approved a $1.2 million business stimulus package to attract new industry and businesses to Lower Hutt,” the Mayor says.  “This has been achieved through savings from within council’s own operating budget.”

Chair of the Finance Committee, Cr David Bassett, says this year was one of the most challenging for the council.

“Considering the spending pressures on council, I believe we have done a good job in holding its average increase to 1.8 per cent with a small allowance for growth,” he says.
