Two sisters receive Mayoral citation

For their role in saving the life of Wainuiomata timber yard hand Jacko Swinton, sisters Kathie James and Jodie Alexander were acknowledged with a Mayoral Citation from Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace recently.
Trained in CPR, the two Lower Hutt sisters jumped into action when they found Jacko slumped across the wheel of his car which had crashed into a fence near White Lines Road.
“We just reacted and went to work checking his vital signs before Jodie started CPR straight away,” says Kathie a former ambulance paramedic. Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic, Rob Gladding, used a defribillator to get Jacko’s heart beating again after the ambulance arrived.
After receiving surgey and recovering from his trauma, Jacko met with the sisters.
“Jacko said thank you for saving his life,” says Kathie .
“We are really keen to make people aware of the value of learning CPR – too often people stand around watching instead of getting in and doing something,” she says.
