Police, Fire and Ambulance are currently attending a bus crash on State Highway 94 (Te Anau Mossburn Highway) in Southland, that occurred just before 0900 hours this morning. 20 of the 30 passengers have been taken to Mossburn Fire station, some with cuts and abrasions. It is believed that some other passengers may have more serious injuries, but the status of those patients is not confirmed at this stage.

Both Police Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit officers are currently on their way to the crash scene.

It is too early to comment on the causes of the crash, however roads in the area are believed to be treacherous due to icy conditions. A grit truck has been through the area, and the road is open to eastbound traffic at the crash scene. It may be several hours before the road is completely reopened. Motorists are again urged to exercise extreme caution while navigating Southland roads affected by the wintry conditions.
