Further to the media release yesterday regarding the bus crash north of Mossburn on State Highway 94, 5th July 2012:

Police have confirmed with Dunedin Hospital that the 8 year old boy admitted yesterday after the bus crash is still in Intensive Care but in a stable condition.

He has an injury to his abdomen. He is expected to stay with that Unit and be assessed daily. His mother is with him and receiving support from Victim Support and the Hospital.

Invercargill Hospital has two of the passengers still in their care, a 54year old male who is in the Critical Care Unit with rib fractures and bruising to his lungs.

The other passenger is a 62 years old female with a fractured wrist.

All other passengers who had been transported to Invercargill by the ambulances were treated for minor to moderate injuries and released.

The passengers who were unhurt were transported to Te Anau for the night and are expected to return to Auckland today.

The Chinese Consulate are liaising with Police over the incident.

The 37 year old driver is Chinese and has been living in Auckland for the last five years. He is an experienced bus driver and is assisting Police with their enquiries.

Road conditions were treacherous at the time in that area, although Police are awaiting expert reports before determining the cause of the crash.
