On Friday, July 27, Allan Brent will climb the stairs of the Sky Tower 15.5 times – the equivalent height of Mt Aspiring, near Wanaka – to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Trust in support of his mother and other Kiwi women living with the disease.

When the outdoorsy Wanaka local Anna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, she vowed to climb Mt Aspiring with her family. The ensuing battle of multiple doctor’s visits, treatment and operations has meant that goal is still some way off, but it has provided the inspiration for Allan’s courageous fundraising efforts.

Joining him in the private Sky Tower climb will be his mother, father, family and friends, plus Monty Betham and BCRT ambassadors Shane Cortese, Jaquie Brown and Geeling Ng.

Each person taking part in the Sky Tower climb will have their own online fundraising page where family, friends and members of the public will be able to pledge their support.

“Climbing the 3033m of Mt Aspiring again remains my goal, but in the meantime I’ll be elated if I complete one ascent of the Sky Tower!” says Anna. “I’m optimistic that the expertise, love and loyalty of my wide ranging support team has collectively conquered my breast cancer – which is surely the best summit to have conquered.”

Deputy Chair of the Breast Cancer Research Trust, Tony Moffatt, comments, “As our goal of finding a cure for breast cancer by 2018 gets closer, we’re very fortunate to have the help of people like Allan, our ambassadors, and SKYCITY to help fund the ground-breaking research needed to achieve it.”
