Hamilton dog owners are reminded the due date for re-registering their dogs is this Sunday (15 July) and they can now complete this process online.

Council’s new online dog registration service on www.hamilton.co.nz/dogsonline has been live since Monday, 18 June. As of this morning, 1628 dog owners had chosen to register their dogs via the website, which is 33.35 per cent of the dog registrations received to date.

Animal Education and Control Manager Fiona Sutton says the new online service is about providing options for customers.

“Our customers can still opt to register their dogs in person at the Council building in Garden Place or the Animal Education and Control Centre on Ellis St, however the new online service provides the convenience for those wanting to register their dogs online from the comfort of their own home,” she says.

“We have had a good response to the new service so far and encourage those yet to register their dogs to do so online or in person before the due date for registrations this Sunday.”

Dog registration renewals that are unpaid at 1 August will incur a 50 per cent penalty fee. Owners who do not register their dogs could face further penalties.

The new online dog registration function is one of a number of new online services to be introduced to Council’s website in the coming months, following the site’s launch in April.

In May the site was awarded Best Redevelopment Council Website at the 2012 Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) Web Awards.
