Two found after boating accident

At approximately 3pm this afternoon two males swam from Paihia waterfront to Motumaire Island.

Upon getting to the island the two males have attempted to swim back to the Paihia waterfront.

On the way back one of males, a 19 year old, has gone under the water and has not been seen since.

The other male, aged 20 years, has swum to a nearby boat and obtained a life bouy and began looking for his associate.

A passing ferry has found the 20 year old male swimmer and taken him ashore. He has been taken to hospital with exhausation.

-  update: - A 14 ft boat overdue from the Mangonui area yesterday has been located safe and well with one male on board.
