Auckland Council has launched a new four-minute video to help explain the changes to Auckland’s new single rating system.

It is posted on the Auckland Council’s YouTube site, and other online news media are welcome to link to the video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9q7WazHpes&feature=g-upl

The video explains how the main changes to rates result from the move to a new amalgamated rating system for 2012/2013. As we continue our transition from the eight former territorial authorities, properties across Auckland of a similar value and use will, over time, be charged a similar amount of rates. The video also explains the transition mechanisms to smooth the impact of any significant rates changes for residential and business ratepayers over the next three years.

Additional  information on rates including FAQs and ways to pay can be found at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/rates

The government’s amalgamation of Auckland’s former councils also required Auckland Council to develop a region-wide rating policy based on capital value.

Rates bills will be in the mail from early August.
