The Royal New Zealand Navy Band will play a concert for the people of Taupo next week.  On Friday 20th July the band of 23 musicians will play at the Great Lake Centre performing a large array of pieces including big band, marches and Dixie music.

The RNZN Band, led by Warrant Officer Shaun Jarrett, has been playing in Taupo since 2004 when the Council issued a “Freedom of the City” Charter.  Given this close tie band members are always excited and proud to perform there when they can.

“We aim to provide an entertaining show for all ages to enjoy.  Our talented bunch of musicians will certainly surprise you with the range of music put together in to one performance,” says Warrant Officer Jarrett.

The Band of the Royal New Zealand Navy is a full time, professional concert band located at Devonport Naval Base, Auckland. The Band’s primary responsibilities include supporting Royal and Vice Regal occasions as well as supporting the Navy with ceremonial, public relations, recruiting and entertainment requirements.

Predominantly a concert band, they have diversified over recent times to meet changing needs of the military and public. New groups have formed to accommodate these changes, which include a Big Band, Rock Band, Jazz Quartet and Brass and Woodwind ensembles

Tickets, priced at $17 for adults, $15 for Senior Citizens and $11 for students, can be purchased through Ticketek (www.ticketek.co.nz) or from the Great Lake Centre (07) 376 0340.
