Drivers in New Plymouth District should keep an eye out for flooding and slips following heavy rainfall overnight.

Flooding temporarily closed Lower Dudley Road between Tarata Road and State Highway 3, although it has since reopened to traffic. Also flood-affected but open are Richmond Road near Lepperton, Carrington Road near both Plymouth and Oxford intersections, Kaimata Road, the Egmont/Dorset intersection and Mataro Road.

There are slips in the Eastern Hill Country on the Tarata Saddle and Okau, Mangamaio, Kiwi, Waitaanga, Autawa, Toetoe and Mangatoro roads; Davis Road (near Inglewood); Otaraoa Road (near Waitara); and in New Plymouth’s Blagdon at Windy Point. Waitaanga and Okau roads were closed earlier today but have been opened by the contractor, and all roads are passable with care.

Says Manager Roading Assets Max Aves: “Our contractor Fulton Hogan has crews out on our urban and rural roads in response to issues that have been reported.

“We ask drivers to take particular care on the roads, and to report any issues that they come across.”

In addition, the traffic signals at the Devon/Smart intersection in Waiwhakaiho were not working for a period this morning. “The electrical fault was likely to have been as a result of yesterday’s car crash in the vicinity,” says Mr Aves.
