The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), in conjunction with the Beijing Chamber of International Commerce (BCIC), recently provided an overview of opportunities and services supporting bilateral business and trade with Beijing.

The presentation is part of the drive to establish Beijing as “a modern international city by 2020 and a World City by 2050”, with a key industry focus on finance, information technology, new energy, electric vehicles, bio-medicine, environmental protection and e-commerce.

According to CCPIT, Beijing is currently the most important consumer city in China and the world's sixth largest retail city.  It offers a world-class investing environment, is the second largest Fortune 500 headquarters city, and is among the world's top ten international conference destinations.

It has established a well-known brand position in China’s exhibition and conference industry.  At the 2011 Beijing International Friend Chambers Conference, 45 chambers of commerce from 25 countries and districts participated in the conference.

Events such as the China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) and the International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo (ICCIE) are successful models of Beijing’s foreign exchanges.

Over a series of 14 sessions, CHITEC has become a comprehensive economic and scientific conference and exhibition activity with broad international influence.

ICCIE has set up an important platform for information exchange for cultural and creative industries since its inauguration in 2006. The first five sessions have signed agreements for 696 projects, with total amount reaching USD 24 billion.

Other opportunities and activities were also highlighted, including the biennial Advisory Council Meeting.

The Advisory Council Meeting is an international advisory body formed by world-renowned entrepreneurs and engaged by the mayor of Beijing.  Every two years since 1999, it has provided regular comments and suggestions concerning economic and social development in Beijing.  Thirty enterprises including McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Montreal Bank, make up the Council membership.

The CCPIT Beijing, BCIC and World Trade Centre Beijing jointly provide a service centre that offers:

  • international liaison
  • international trade promotion service
  • international business information service
  • exhibition promotion
  • business legal services
  • economic and trade training
  • online promotional services
