TAUPO

Chalet Eiger, Taupo's luxurious 5-Star Qualmark lakeside lodge, has achieved prestigious Green Globe Benchmark status under the global Green Globe Benchmarking program. With this accreditation, the property is recognized as having the highest eco-friendly benchmarking and eco-sustainability policy in place.

Green Globe is a worldwide benchmarking, certification and improvement system assisting the international travel and tourism industry to attain eco-sustainability. It responds directly to major environmental problems facing the planet, including the greenhouse effect, over-use of freshwater resources and the destruction of biodiversity.

Chalet Eiger has picturesque views down to Lake Taupo and over to Mount Tauhara. It passed the strict requirements of a first-time applicant to become recognised as a Green Globe Benchmarked Accommodation. The property's five benchmarking indicators all exceeded Green Globe's Best Practice Level. Energy Consumption, Water Saving, Waste Recycling, Community Commitment and Community Contributions were all considered superior, an achievement highly commended by the global benchmarking organisation.

"Chalet Eiger is a prime example of being committed to environmentally sustainable tourism," said Stewart Moore, CEO of Green Globe's management company, EC3 Global. "They have demonstrated through a variety of initiatives that the business and its employees can make a difference by reducing their environmental impact."

"The commitment they have shown by participating in the Green Globe program, and their benchmarking achievements, set examples for other businesses to follow," Stewart added.
