Third "Let's Get it Done Booked For 15 September 2012 – Register Now

The Rebuild Christchurch Foundation has announced the date of its third Let’s Get it Done activity day.

The last full event was held in February and saw around 300 volunteers help residents with approximately 150 jobs including rubble and silt removal from properties.

The Rebuild Christchurch team will be taking nominations for jobs and registrations for assistance at www.rebuildchristchurch.co.nz/lets-get-it-done or by calling 0800TOREBUILD (0800 867 328) from tomorrow (Monday 20th August). People can also register to volunteer by visiting www.rebuildchristchurch.co.nz/lets-get-it-done and completing the online form.

“We want to hear from people who need help and from those who can volunteer to help,” Deon Swiggs says.

“This time around we want to focus on the vulnerable in the community. This has been a tough winter and we want to help those who have small jobs that need doing,” he says. “State Insurance has been fantastic in stepping up and providing funding for a number of projects this year and we are very grateful to them for this support.”

The Rebuild Christchurch Foundation has also teamed up with Buildtech, a local building company who will be providing a team of builders for the day, assisting get those with small DIY jobs residents may not be able to do themselves.

“There are many elderly in our community who have houses that have moved and still have doors or cupboards that don’t open. These are the people we wish to help,” Deon Swiggs says.

The Foundation was set up as a result of the online success of the www.rebuildchristchurch.co.nz website and helps with people on the ground through activities and support.

“The website has continued to develop and integrate information from organisations including residents, businesses, NGO’s and Government organisations, with up to 10,000 people visiting the site each day,” says Swiggs.

Deon Swiggs says putting energy into action that results in real, tangible and positive results for Christchurch is where he believes those who can, should be focusing efforts at the moment.

“Pulling together as a community to continue to support one another will be vital to the ongoing recovery of our city,” he says.
