Mayfield School’s young poets contribute to Taylor River Writers’ Walk

Council environmental educator Ali Kay and Mayor Alistair Sowman with the three pupils from Mayfield School who’ve contributed the latest poetry to the Taylor River Writers’ Walk; from left Anthony Forbes, Leana de Joux and Bailey Robinson.

Their poem is engraved on granite and mounted on a rock along the walkway, the latest addition to creative offerings from Springlands School and Redwoodtown School.

Two years ago Springlands School got the project rolling as part of its environmental education, challenging other schools to participate. Geoffrey T. Sowman sponsors the project and two other primary schools are now looking to join in.

Ali works with all the local schools, encouraging them to promote the water quality protection and conservation message through their environmental education.
