Well known Ponsonby DJ Steals another Dj’s brand name!

A recent spat has erupted in Auckland’s radio-land between a Mediaworks employee and another well known Auckland DJ.

George FM DJ Dean Campbell (Now calling himself ‘The Big DC’) and Radio Ponsonby DJ “Dc”.

A party goer said: “I wish they would sort this out but how could Dean Campbell steal another DJs name like that?”

George FM breakfast producer, Dean Campbell, recently changed his DJ name to “The Big DC” – apparently without the consent of well known local DJ - Dc.

The blatant plagiarism of another DJ’s brand name has caused a Facebook furore among the Ponsonby music set.

According to our sources (the original) Dc has always been known as ‘Dc’ – in fact for over 15 years.

While comment direct from the DJ’s involved was not forthcoming a close friend of Dean Campbell said “Dean is trying to develop his own brand because he’s feeling the pressure of performing and feels the other Dc is stealing his thunder”

A friend of Dc’s said “He has been known as Dc forever and Dean should respect that fact! Renaming himself as The Big DC is petty and childish”

Locals in Ponsonby are wondering where Dean Campbell got the idea to rebrand himself. One DJ commented saying that “The Big DC sounds silly and it sets himself up for an embarrassing nick name...The Big D… C#@%”

Dean Campbell recently purchased a t-shirt that says ‘I Love DC’ (with a heart shape). Many people are wondering if there’s a dark side to Dean’s obsession.  Just how far is he prepared to go??

The original Dc has played various clubs etc in Europe for many years and now plays on Radio Ponsonby. Dc has been playing at many bars and clubs in and around Auckland for the past 5 years. Over this time he has made serious in-roads in the Auckland scene.

Dean Campbell has been with George FM for the past 5+ years and has a loyal, core fan base.

Both DJ’s know each other and but it seems the local market may suffer from their apparent circumstances.

Dan Carter is also called DC, so will he have a say in this?
