Dunedin (Friday, 14 September 2012) – Local bands Cougar Zoo and The Foxy Tones have been named as support acts to Bluestone at Dunedin’s New Year’s Eve concert in the Octagon.

The celebration focuses on providing a free, safe and community-focused event for all ages.

Cougar Zoo, who will take the 8pm – 9.15pm slot is made up of three guys playing guitar, bass, drums and vocals, who play a range of classic hits through to modern chart toppers with a bland of rock, funk, pop, reggae, soul and rock’n roll.

The band’s members say they are looking forward to kicking off the celebrations and entertaining the crowd.

They will be followed from 9.20pm – 10.40pm by The Foxy Tones, an all-girl act who put a lot of emphasis on harmonies and have a repertoire of high quality, custom made, dance floor friendly tracks.

“We are so excited to have been selected and are looking forward to the buzz of performing on the big stage,” they say.

Feature act Bluestone will follow from 10.45pm – Midnight.

A lot of effort was put into selecting the support acts from the nine local bands that put up their hands for the gig.

A seven person panel was set up representing a range of age groups, including Dunedin’s Youth Action Committee and Age Concern, along with the sound engineer contracted to the event.

They listened to CDs and watched DVDs of the bands and gave them ratings which were then used to choose the successful acts.

Strawberry Sound technical engineer Gordon Duff says the result is a good mix of bands.

“I think they will all enhance the family atmosphere that the DCC is trying to create by providing songs and entertainment that everyone will enjoy.”
