WELLINGTON CITY

With our earthquake briefings continuing this month and in October, you've got the opportunity to hear first hand about being prepared.

Hear GNS scientists talk about the earthquake risk to the city, what we're learning from the Canterbury earthquakes and the Wellington 'It's Our Fault' project.

The Council talks about what has been done to make the city better prepared and what's planned in the future.

The briefings also cover what you can do to make sure you and your family can get through an earthquake. So far, more than 600 people have registered to attend a session.

Improving Earthquake Resilience - Briefings

A new guide for homeowners on earthquake-strengthening your house tells you how to look for potential weaknesses, such as unreinforced brick chimneys, and how these can be fixed.

Wellington City Council and other councils in the region commissioned the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ) to produce the free guide.

The guide's also available at libraries and our service centre at 101 Wakefield Street.
