Federated Farmers’ Adverse Events Trust (registered charity no. CC46245) has made its final donation from money raised for the Canterbury and Christchurch earthquakes.  The St John Christchurch Appeal has been donated $54,326.

“This last donation means $402,780 has been raised to assist Christchurch and Canterbury residents,” says David Rose, a trustee of Federated Farmers’ Adverse Events Trust.

“Federated Farmers launched its major fundraising effort last March under the ‘Meat the needs of Christchurch’ banner.  In total, trustees have made fifteen disbursements to a variety of organisations; some large but others small.

“It also includes supporting Canterbury residents and farmers affected by the 2010 Darfield earthquake.

“It is important to recognise most of these donations have come from individual farmers, meat company workers as well as meat and wool companies.

“Farmers, processors and workers literally gave their blood, sweat and tears to help out Christchurch via the Farmy Army.  Nationally, colleagues backed this up by dipping into their own pockets and this speaks a lot about the sense of community we still have.

“Federated Farmers publicly thanks those meat companies and wool processors who made ‘Meat the Needs of Christchurch’ possible.  Without their administrative input we would never have got this off the ground and good causes would have been poorer for it.

“As Meat the Needs of Christchurch straddled the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, we wanted to ensure we had all proceeds in before making our final disbursement.

“We chose St John as the final Adverse Events Trust recipient because they are first responders.  Somehow, being the last and largest recipient seems an apt way for us to conclude current efforts to assist Christchurch.

“Our donation is important because it will further help St John to rebuild its emergency response resources.  St John is a New Zealand institution and when the chips are down, it is always there for rural and urban alike.

“Federated Farmers’ Adverse Events Trust is a charitable trust which usually assists rural communities in times of need.  As a trustee, Federated Farmers’ Adverse Events Trust welcomes any support that enables us to keep doing this,” Mr Rose concluded.
