Provocative, cheeky and a little bit saucy, The Outfit Theatre Company touted as “one of
Auckland’s slickest young companies” have re-invented their sold-out smash-hit The Sex
Show in 2012.

In Auckland Fringe 2011 the ambitious theatre show with its provocative title and massive
cast drew queues that stretched around the block and completely sold out for ten consecutive
nights. The Sex Show, produced by Auckland’s most exciting and explosive theatre
ensemble, The Outfit Theatre Company, went on to win The STAMP Award at the Fringe
Awards giving them the chance to bring it back bigger and better than ever and those who
missed out, the chance to see it again.

The Sex Show was created by drawing on real-life sexual experiences of the cast as well as
polling online forums and social media sites where members of the public were encouraged
to share their own experiences. It’s a whirlwind snapshot of a cross-section of Kiwis and
their sexual lives, pushing boundaries with its cheeky and often hilarious insights into what
happens behind closed doors.

The highly anticipated return season of The Sex Show opens October 2nd at the Auckland
Town Hall Concert Chamber. The show has been redeveloped and reworked with help from
the STAMP programme and iconic New Zealand playwright, Gary Henderson, and is to be
directed once-again by Outfit Co-Artistic Director Joel Herbert.

Delving into the sexual appetites and attitudes of Aotearoa, The Sex Show brings to life a
variety of colourful, comedic and climactic characters who reveal their sexual experiences,
relationships, politics, fantasies and fears from every possible ‘position’, with, honest, funny,
touching and thoroughly… stimulating results.

With more than 10 successful shows under their belt since 2008, The Outfit Theatre Company
are building momentum with a reputation for fast-paced, laugh-out-loud ensemble theatre.
Not afraid to tackle taboo subjects or push the envelope with shows like The Sex Show the
Outfit also have a knack for creating fun, action-packed shows for the whole family to giggle
over. The company pride themselves on their unique devising process which is collaborative
between the cast, director and crew. The key ingredient, their ‘Resident Ensemble’ of 25
actors, writers and directors who make up the majority of each cast.

“We are tackling a sensitive and what is often a Taboo topic in The Sex Show so it’s
important there’s trust between everyone involved. We have been working together for
years, share a similar sense of humour and are like family, so creating shows like this
is great because we are comfortable with each other and share a common language.
We have built up trust and a comfortable environment in which to play which always
makes it fun" says Ema Barton, producer and performer.
