Investigation into baby girl's death in Hamilton continues

Waikato Police are continuing to investigate the sudden death of a five month old baby girl late last week.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene of the Waikato CIB says Police are now able to release the name of the deceased baby girl.

She was Shannon Lee Tai-Rakena of Hamilton.

"Shannon was taken to Waikato Hospital around 5pm on Thursday 20th September in a critical condition, however sadly she died around 11am the following day."

D/S/S Greene says a post-mortem examination was carried out in Auckland on Saturday however results are not yet available. Baby Shannon's death is still being treated as unexplained.

"Police have completed a scene examination of the girl's house in East Hamilton and further enquiries into the circumstances surrounding her death are still underway."

Police will not be making any further comment on this matter at this time.
