LEVIN

The Palmerston North Armed Offenders Squad was called to Levin this morning after local police were threatened with an axe at a Goldsmith Crescent address.

The incident started shortly after 7 am after Levin police received a complaint that a woman had threatened another person with a hammer at a Burns Street address.

The offender was then located at a Goldsmith Crescent address where she was arrested, but she ran inside the house locking the doors behind her.

She then presented herself at the window with an axe threatening to hit the first officer that came through her door.

The house was then cordoned off by armed police and the AOS called.

After attempts to get the woman to leave the address failed AOS members entered the house and took her into custody without incident.

No one was injured.

The 35-year-old Levin woman will be appearing in the Levin District Court on the 4th October on several weapon and assault related charges.
