The search at Lake Moawhango for missing NZDF soldier Private Michael Ross is continuing.

Private Ross fell overboard from an inflatable boat whilst on a training exercise early on Tuesday evening.

Ruapehu Area Commander Inspector Steve Mastrovich says today, the Royal New Zealand Navy operational dive team with sonar equipment and Police National Dive Squad members have continued searching an area of the lake.

"We have also been assisted by the Wanganui Coastguard. Their boat has been out on the water, supporting the divers today."

Inspector Mastrovich says weather conditions in Waiouru this morning were rainy and cold. It is currently overcast and cold. Divers will continue searching for a couple of hours before resuming again tomorrow morning.

"We will continue searching over the weekend until we locate Private Ross and are able to return him to his family and loved ones."
